Crayola Article
Most of us remember the joy of receiving a new box of crayons. There were always the hand-me-downs but there was nothing like having your own crayons. The excitement of the box and the anxious opening to find what colors were inside was part of our early development. Right away we would pull out the best color, for me it was red! But it wasn't long before the box was turned upside down and all the magic fell out. The bigger the box the better! There were reds and blues and greens and all the other colors that I knew so well. But then there were colors I never imagined. New colors with names that I couldn't pronounce, never saw before, and could only imagine where they came from or who invented them. And oh, how could you ever forget the smell of new crayons!
Many times along with a box of fresh crayons you would also receive a coloring book with pages and pages of characters and objects that were waiting to be brought to life. They had no color. Their hair and face and clothes were white and plain. Everything about them was dull and boring and lifeless as if they didn't exist.
But then the magic would begin. You may start with the hair or the eyes or maybe even the clothes, but you would select colors that would make them real. Maybe make them look like us or maybe look like someone no one has ever seen before. The magic was real, you didn't need to have the perfect color or stay in the lines, you just needed to the put crayons to paper and watch them come alive. In the end you would always be so proud and would always beam brightly as your master piece was placed on the refrigerator door for all to see.
Actually, crayons are for everyone! Children, teens, grownups, is there anyone who does not enjoy coloring? You can receive a new box of crayons at any age. The joy of opening them, discovering the colors, and remembering the smell! Crayons and coloring are part of the fabric we grew up with.
